2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the development of
antibody phage display, a technology that revolutionised antibody
discovery and shaped the clinical and commercial landscape for
biotherapeutics. It also caused some landmark patent disputes between
companies developing antibody products.
Phage display has joined hybridoma and humanisation technologies in
making biologic drugs a reality, driving a US $41bn market in
therapeutic antibodies and defining the treatment of human diseases in
the 21st century.
To celebrate the contribution of phage display to research, to human
health and to commerce, John McCafferty and Debbie Allen (both formerly
of Cambridge Antibody Technology), are organising a 2 day summit in
Cambridge, UK, bringing together many of the pioneers of this
technology.
Through a combination of platform presentations, panel discussions and
debate, the conference will explore the many factors that shaped this
unique technology over 20 years – and discuss its impact on science,
innovation and medicine, now and for the future.
This conference
marks a major milestone in the evolution of biotechnology. Bringing
together some of the most prominent leaders in the phage display field,
it offers a unique combination of historical retrospective and vision
for the future of healthcare. It is an event of special interest to
researchers in bioscience, business development professionals and
biotechnology entrepreneurs alike.
